In this new collection TAKING STOCK, Philip speaks about familiar human experiences, including the enjoyment of nature and the impulse to be creative. The poems reflect upon aspects of the personal life journey and the surprises this journey offers at different stages. Philip’s awareness of growing older gives an edge to the issues about which he writes. While the poems touch occasionally on the experience of loss, the main thrust is optimism in our human capacity to do the best we can in the circumstances in which we find ourselves.

Author, teacher and poet, Philip Quirke grew up in Wexford town and has a number of publications to his name including 'Elegy for Pierces' , a poetic look at the people who worked in Pierces foundry, 'Journey to the Shore' and 'Bruised Reeds'. Philip's work has been widely published, featuring in well-respected publications which include The Shop, Coffee House Poetry and Poetry in Motion. His work has also featured on the pages of several local newspapers.
