In this new collection TAKING STOCK, Philip speaks about familiar human experiences, including the enjoyment of nature and the impulse to be creative. The poems reflect upon aspects of the personal life journey and the surprises this journey offers at different stages. Philip’s awareness of growing older gives an edge to the issues about which he writes. While the poems touch occasionally on the experience of loss, the main thrust is optimism in our human capacity to do the best we can in the circumstances in which we find ourselves.
