New Red Books to open in Gorey

A new Red Books outpost is opening in Gorey town on Wednesday the 1st of March. We are delighted to be opening the new Red Books with our friends in the existing Hawthorne & Mayblossom vintage shop at 2 Rafter Street (Beside Pettitt's), giving us the perfect blend of books and antique jewellery. Hawthorn & Mayblossom have been in existence on Rafter Street for a year now and share a similar ethos of reuse and the glorification of the old and the odd as ourselves. We are a good match. Live Literature events kick off at Red Books

A string of fringe events will take place at Wexford independent bookstore Red Books during the Wexford Opera Festival. Owner Wally O’ Neill said that the events would be ‘live literature’, an attempt to bring books alive and put their merit at the centre of artistic expression. “We are lucky to have twelve live events coming up in the bookstore over the festival,” Wally said. “These events are provided by the artistic community that has evolved around Red Books, including writers, poets, historians, film-makers and musicians. Two hundred people attended the opening of a extension to a Red Books in Wexford's St Peter’s Square last Tuesday evening. Veteran bookseller Anton O’ Broin cut the ribbon on the new building, stating that readers and bookshops were alive and well in Wexford. “Our extension doubles the size of Red Books and increases our stock to a quarter of a million books,” Wally O’ Neill, the owner of Red Books, said. “It also affords us much needed space for book launches, writer groups and the many other events that happen around bookstores like ours.” Red Books began life in...
